Do Indians need a visa for Azerbaijan?
Yes. India is not on Azerbaijan's visa free list. India is on the e visa list, so Indian citizens apply online on evisa.gov.az and get the visa by email, without visiting the embassy.
Our Azerbaijan visa page for Indian passports shows the short answer for every purpose. Here you find the details Indian travellers ask most about: visa on arrival, the fee in practice, family and group trips, and what happens at Baku airport.
Is there a visa on arrival in Baku for Indians?
Not for an Indian passport on its own. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs keeps a short list of nationalities that can get a visa at Baku airport: Oman, Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Kuwait, Japan, Indonesia, China, Korea, Malaysia, Singapore and Israel. India is not on it.
There is one exception that matters to many Indians. The same list allows a visa at the airport, for up to 30 days, for holders of a UAE resident visa valid more than 6 months, and for holders of a residence permit valid more than 6 months in Saudi Arabia, Oman, Bahrain, Qatar or Kuwait. This depends on your residence, not your passport, so carry the residence card with you. Even then, many travellers get the e visa in advance so they do not depend on the airport desk.
| Your situation | How you get in | Stay |
|---|---|---|
| Indian passport, living in India | E visa before travel | Up to 30 days |
| Indian passport with a UAE resident visa valid over 6 months | Visa at Baku airport, or e visa before travel | Up to 30 days |
| Indian passport with a Saudi, Omani, Bahraini, Qatari or Kuwaiti residence permit valid over 6 months | Visa at Baku airport, or e visa before travel | Up to 30 days |
| Work, long business trip or private visit on an invitation | Embassy visa from New Delhi | Depends on the visa |
How much does the Azerbaijan visa cost for Indians?
The fee is the same for every nationality. On the official portal, the standard e visa costs USD 29: a USD 20 state fee and a USD 9 service fee. You pay in US dollars by card, so the rupee amount on your statement depends on your bank's rate and any foreign transaction charge.
The Embassy in New Delhi lists the standard e visa at USD 20 and the urgent e visa at USD 60. The USD 20 is the state fee without the service fee. For urgent, other embassy pages give a USD 50 state fee plus the service fee, so expect about USD 59. The form on evisa.gov.az shows the exact amount before you pay.
If a travel portal or agency quotes you much more than USD 29, the difference is its own service fee. Read how to spot fake e visa websites. A fair service shows the two separately.
How Indians apply for the e visa
- 1
Check your passport
It must be valid at least 3 months after the e visa ends. The e visa is valid for 90 days, so 6 months left on the passport is the safe choice.
- 2
Prepare a clear scan of the photo page
Colour, all four corners visible, no glare or shadow. Unreadable scans are a common reason for refusal.
- 3
Apply on evisa.gov.az
Type your name exactly as printed, including the surname field. If your passport has only a given name, follow the passport, not your usual spelling.
- 4
Pay and wait
Pay by Visa, Mastercard, UnionPay or JCB. Standard takes up to 3 working days; urgent within 3 hours.
- 5
Print it
Carry the printed e visa with the same passport. If the email does not arrive, use the official status page.
Honeymoon, family and group trips
Baku is a popular honeymoon and family destination for Indian travellers. The portal lets you send one family application for 2 to 10 people, but each person still gets an own e visa and pays the fee. A child written in a parent's passport also needs own data in the application.
For a group tour, check that each traveller's name and passport number on the e visa match the passport exactly. One wrong letter means a new paid application for that person.
At Baku airport and during your stay
- Walk past the visa desks to passport control if you already have an e visa.
- Have your hotel booking and return ticket ready. Officers can ask where you stay and for how long.
- If you stay more than 15 days, you must be registered at your address within 15 days of arrival. Hotels usually do it. See address registration.
- Do not stay past day 30. Overstaying can cost 300 to 400 AZN and block your next visit. See overstay fines.
- If you stay longer than 30 days and use a local SIM, your phone must be registered by IMEI.
Study and work for Indian citizens
Students with an admission letter can enter on the e visa with the purpose Education and then apply for a student residence permit in their first two weeks. Some universities prefer an embassy education visa, so ask your university first. See study in Azerbaijan.
Paid work is never allowed on the e visa. You need an embassy work visa on an employer's invitation, then a work permit and residence permit. The Embassy in New Delhi handles embassy visas; it cannot issue, change or approve e visas. E visa questions go to the portal's contact page or info@evisa.gov.az. If you want help with the e visa itself, Sroky can file it for you for a separate fee, or you can do it alone on the portal.
Let Sroky file your e visa
Check your passport for free, fill in the application in the app and we file it on the official portal. You pay our fee and the official fee as separate lines.
