Key points

  • Your passport must be from one of the 87 eligible countries and valid at least 3 months after the e visa ends.
  • The only upload is a clear scan of your passport photo page. You also need an email and a bank card.
  • The e visa is single entry, valid 90 days, for a stay of up to 30 days.
  • It does not allow paid work, and it is not a long stay study visa. Students and families file a residence permit after arrival.
  • Carry the printed visa, the same passport and papers that match your purpose, such as a hotel booking or an admission letter.

Who can get the Azerbaijan e visa?

Citizens of 87 countries can apply on evisa.gov.az. The list includes every European Union country, the United Kingdom, the United States, Canada, Australia, India, Pakistan, Iran, Malaysia, Indonesia, Mexico, Brazil and South Africa, among others. The full list is on evisa.gov.az/en/countries, and the free visa checker tells you the result for your passport.

Stateless people who live permanently in an eligible country can apply too. People with two nationalities must apply with the passport they will travel on. Some passports do not need a visa at all; see visa free countries. If your country is on neither list, you apply at an embassy.

Being on the list is the first requirement, not a guarantee. The government decides on every application, and border officers make the final check when you arrive.

Passport validity

The official rule is that your passport must be valid at least 3 months beyond the end date of the e visa. Because the e visa is valid for 90 days from issue, count about 90 days plus 3 months from the day you apply. Some airlines ask for 6 months, so a passport with at least 6 months left is the safe choice.

If you plan to stay longer on a residence permit later, your passport must also cover the permit period. Read passport validity rules for the details.

If your passport ends soon, renew it before you apply. The e visa is tied to the passport in your application, and you must travel with that same passport. Sroky can remind you months before your passport runs out, so you have time to renew it.

What you need for the application

The application is short. You do not upload a hotel booking, a ticket or an invitation, and there is no interview. Prepare these before you start:

  • A scan of the passport photo page. The photo on that page is used; no separate photo upload is listed.
  • Your personal details, typed exactly as in the passport.
  • A valid email address, where the visa is sent.
  • Your arrival date and the purpose of your visit.
  • A Visa, Mastercard, UnionPay or JCB card for the USD 29 standard fee.
  • For children: their own data in the application, even if they are written in a parent's passport.

If the system cannot read your passport scan, the visa is refused and the fee is not refunded. Use good light, no glare, and keep all four corners in the picture.

Special cases: children, groups, transit and journalists

  • Families of 2 to 10 people can use one family application, and groups of 10 to 300 people a group application.
  • A child written in a parent's passport still needs their own data in the application.
  • Stateless people need a permanent residence in an eligible country to apply.
  • Changing planes without leaving the airport transit area needs no visa. To go into the city, you need an e visa or visa free entry.
  • Journalists and camera crews must get accreditation from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs first, or the visa can be cancelled.

Coming to study or to join family

The e visa only gives 30 days, so it is not a long stay study visa. Many admitted students from e visa countries still enter on an e visa with the purpose Education, then apply for a temporary residence permit in their first two weeks. A filed application keeps your stay legal while it is decided. Never choose Tourism if you plan to study. See student visa and arrival.

Spouses and children who will join a student or worker usually choose Personal trip, then apply for a family residence permit. Some universities ask for an embassy education visa instead, so check with your university first. The government decides each case.

After you arrive

If you stay more than 15 days, you must be registered at your address. Hotels and landlords usually do it, and there is no fee. Leave before day 30 unless a residence permit application has been accepted.

Sroky can keep your e visa on your phone and remind you before your registration deadline and your last day of stay.

Overstaying or staying without registration can bring a fine of 300 to 400 AZN. An unpaid migration fine can block your next entry.
