Who needs a visa for Malaysia?

Malaysia works with a list of countries that must apply for a visa. If your country is not on it, you can usually come as a tourist or for business meetings without a visa, for a stay set by the officer at the border. The Malaysian Embassy in Baku, for example, says Azerbaijani and Georgian citizens may stay up to 30 days.

This summary follows the Immigration Department of Malaysia list checked on 4 November 2026. The list changes, so open it before you book.

eVISA and eNTRI: the two online options

The Malaysian eVISA is the online version of the visa a visa national would get at an embassy. You apply on malaysiavisa.imi.gov.my, upload your passport, a photo, a return ticket and your hotel or invitation, pay online and print the approval. The portal shows the visa type, stay and fee for your nationality before you pay, and has a 24 hour live chat for problems.

eNTRI (electronic travel registration and information) is a separate, simpler registration that the Immigration Department lists for Indian nationals and citizens of China. It is meant for short tourist trips. While India's visa exemption runs, most Indian tourists do not need it; check the portal for its current stay and fee if you plan to travel after 31 December 2026.

Use only the imi.gov.my portal. Lookalike sites charge extra fees and some never deliver a visa.

Applying from Baku at the Malaysian Embassy

If you live in Azerbaijan and your passport needs a visa, you can also apply in person at the Embassy of Malaysia in Baku. The embassy accepts applications two weeks before departure, charges AZN 10 per application and usually decides in 3 to 5 business days.

  • Passport valid for at least 6 months, plus a copy of the first page.
  • Two photos sized 3.5 x 5 cm.
  • Return flight booking or itinerary.
  • An approval, reference or invitation letter where your visa type needs one.
  • Your Azerbaijani residence card or ID copy.
  • Bank statement for the last 3 months.
  • The completed and signed visa application form.
  • Call or email the embassy first for an appointment.

The MDAC arrival card

The Malaysia Digital Arrival Card is a free online form on the Immigration Department site. Fill it in up to 3 days before you land and show it with your passport at the border. Azerbaijani travellers can also use the automatic gates at Malaysian airports, according to the embassy in Baku.

The MDAC is not a visa. If your nationality needs a visa, you still need the eVISA or embassy visa. Our guide to arrival cards compares the MDAC with the Thai, Singapore and Indonesian forms.

Planning a trip around Southeast Asia

Malaysia is often combined with Thailand, Singapore, Indonesia or Vietnam, and each country has its own rules. Read our guides to Thailand's 2026 visa rules, the Vietnam e visa and the Indonesia visa on arrival. Sroky does not file Malaysian visas; apply on the official portal or at the embassy.
