Is China visa free for Azerbaijani citizens?
Yes. China and Azerbaijan signed a mutual visa exemption agreement for ordinary passports in Beijing in April 2025, and it entered into force on 16 July 2025. Chinese consular authorities confirm that holders of valid ordinary passports of either country can enter, leave or transit the other country without a visa.
The same agreement works the other way: Chinese citizens can also visit Azerbaijan without a visa. Our visa page for Chinese citizens covers that side. For other countries open to your passport, see where Azerbaijani passports can travel.
What you can and cannot do without a visa

| Business meetings, trade fairs, buying goods | Yes, as a short visit | No paid work for a Chinese company |
| Transit to a third country | Yes | Counts toward your days if you leave the airport |
| Paid work, internship | No | Needs a work visa and permit |
| Study, including language courses | No | Needs a student visa |

The exemption covers ordinary passports. Diplomatic and service passports have their own agreement.
How to count 30 days and 90 in 180
There are two limits at the same time. First, one visit cannot be longer than 30 days. Second, all your visits together cannot pass 90 days in any 180 day period. The 180 days move with you: on any day, look back 180 days and add up the days you spent in China.
Example: you visit Guangzhou for 25 days in March, Shanghai for 30 days in May and Yiwu for 30 days in July. That is 85 days within 180, so a fourth trip in August could last only 5 days. If you trade with China often, a day counter such as the one in the Sroky app helps you avoid an overstay.
| Plan | Allowed? | Why |
|---|---|---|
| One trip of 28 days | Yes | Under 30 days |
| One trip of 40 days | No | Over 30 days per visit; get a visa |
| Three trips of 30 days in 5 months | Yes, just | Exactly 90 in 180 |
| Four trips of 30 days in 6 months | No | 120 days in 180 |
Business trips and the Canton Fair
Many Azerbaijanis go to China to buy goods, meet suppliers or visit trade fairs such as the Canton Fair in Guangzhou. A short trip for meetings, factory visits and fairs fits the visa free rules as long as you are not employed or paid in China and you leave within 30 days.
Bring an invitation or a fair registration, your hotel booking and your return ticket. They are not always checked, but they make the border interview quick. If you need to stay longer, or you plan to work for a Chinese company, apply for the correct Chinese visa at the Chinese Embassy in Baku before you fly.
At the border and during your stay
- Use your ordinary Azerbaijani passport. Make sure it is valid for your whole trip; airlines often want 6 months.
- Fill in the arrival card that the border asks for, on paper or online.
- Hotels register foreign guests with the police automatically.
- If you stay at a private home, you must register at the local police station soon after arrival; the deadline is short, often 24 hours in cities.
- Keep your passport with you. Police checks and train tickets need it.
- Leave on or before day 30. Overstaying can lead to fines, detention and a ban.
When you still need a Chinese visa
Apply for a visa at the Chinese Embassy or visa centre if you plan to work, study, report as a journalist, live with family for months, or stay more than 30 days in one visit. The visa free rules do not let you change your purpose inside China, so get the right visa at home.
