Key points

  • Apply to extend your TRC at least 30 days before the card ends (Migration Code, Article 47.1).
  • Each extension lasts up to 2 years, or up to 3 years for investors and highly skilled migrants, and there is no limit on the number of extensions.
  • You file the same documents again, and your passport must stay valid at least 3 months after the new end date.
  • Without an extension you must leave Azerbaijan when the card ends; staying on is fined AZN 300 to 400 and can lead to expulsion.
  • After the decision, pay the state fee within 30 days after processing ends, or the new permit is cancelled.

When should you renew your TRC?

The rule is simple: file the extension at least 30 days before your card ends (Article 47.1 of the Migration Code). If your card ends on 30 June, your last safe day to file is 31 May.

The law sets no earliest date, but you need your documents ready, and your passport must be valid long enough. A good plan is to start collecting papers about 60 days before the card ends.

Time before the card endsWhat to do
60 daysCheck your passport, medical certificate, proof of ground and housing papers
45 daysBook a queue at ASAN or prepare the online application
30 daysLast safe day to file the extension
After the decisionPay the fee and collect the card within 30 days after processing ends

The law says "at least 30 days before". Whether an office still accepts a file inside the last 30 days, and on what terms, is not written in an official source. Do not count on it: ask the State Migration Service on 919 if you are already late.

How long does a TRC extension last?

There is no limit on the number of extensions, as long as your ground still exists. A family member's card follows the sponsor's card, so renew the sponsor first and the family right after.

How to renew your TRC step by step

  1. 1

    Check your passport

Your passport must be valid at least 3 months after the new permit's end date. With a 2 year extension, that means more than 27 months left. Renew the passport first if needed.

  2. 2

    Check your ground

Make sure the reason you live here still exists: a new university letter, a work permit that the employer has extended, a deposit that is still at least AZN 100,000. Entrepreneurs and company heads also need the turnover set by the government after the first year.

  3. 3

    Collect the documents again

An extension needs the same papers as the first permit (Article 47.8): form, passport, proof of ground, medical certificate, two photos, your current card and housing papers. See the TRC documents checklist.

  4. 4

    File the extension

Apply at any ASAN Service centre except Ganja No. 1, a regional migration department, or online at eservice.migration.gov.az, at least 30 days before the card ends.

  5. 5

    Pay and collect

Processing takes 15 or 20 working days depending on the fee. Pay and hand in the receipt when you collect the new card, within 30 days after processing ends.

TRC extension fees

The fee depends on the length of the extension and the speed you choose (State Duty Law, Article 14.8).

Adult, 2 yearsAZN 240AZN 320
Adult, 3 yearsAZN 360AZN 480

Fees can change. Check the ASAN Service page before you pay.

What happens if you renew late or not at all?

Without an extension you must leave Azerbaijan when your card ends (Article 47.9). An accepted application keeps your stay legal while it is being processed, which is why filing early matters.

If you stay after the card ends, you are living without a valid document. The Administrative Offences Code (Article 575) fines this AZN 300 to 400, with or without expulsion. An unpaid migration fine is also a reason to refuse your next permit. Read more in overstay fines in Azerbaijan.

If you miss the 30 day fee window after the decision, the permit is cancelled even though it was approved.

Other dates that can end your TRC early

  • Work permit: the employer must apply to extend it at least 30 days before it ends. If the job ends early, you must leave within 10 working days unless you have another ground.
  • Sponsor's card: a family member's TRC follows the sponsor's TRC.
  • Study end: the ground ends with the studies. No grace period is written in the law.
  • Deposit or securities: the bank reports it if the deposit ends or falls below AZN 100,000.
  • Time abroad: more than 90 days abroad in any 180 days can cancel the permit, except for highly skilled migrants.

Common renewal mistakes

  • Waiting for the employer or the university to remember. They often file, but the deadline is yours.
  • Renewing with a passport that ends too soon, so the new card is shorter or the file is refused.
  • Long summers abroad: more than 90 days out in any 180 days can cancel the permit before you renew it.
  • Forgetting family members, whose cards end with yours.

Renewal or permanent residence?

If you have held a TRC for 2 continuous years on grounds 45.1.1 to 45.1.7, you may apply for permanent residence instead of another extension. That application must go in at least 3 months before your TRC ends, so decide early.

Sroky reminds you 60 days before your card ends and again before the last day to file, and can track your work permit or your sponsor's card too. Sroky is a private app; the State Migration Service decides every renewal.
