UK Visa for Azerbaijani Citizens 2026: Cost, Waiting Time, Refusals

Yes. Azerbaijan is on the UK visa national list in the Immigration Rules, so Azerbaijani citizens need a visa before they travel, even for a short holiday. The usual visa is the Standard Visitor visa.

The UK Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA) is only for nationalities that do not need a visa, such as EU or US citizens. It does not replace a visa for Azerbaijanis. If you hold another passport, read our UK ETA guide to check which rule applies to you.

With the visitor visa you can usually stay up to 6 months per visit. You can see friends and family, travel as a tourist, attend business meetings and interviews, or take a short course. You cannot do paid or unpaid work for a UK company or as a self employed person, apart from a few permitted paid engagements.

The fee is the same for every nationality and is paid online when you apply. A long term visit visa lets you visit many times during its validity, but each visit is still up to 6 months. The fee is not refunded if the visa is refused.

   Apply online on GOV.UK

   Fill in the visitor visa form on gov.uk and pay the fee. You can apply up to 3 months before your trip. Use your name exactly as in your passport.

   Book the appointment

   After paying, you book a slot at the UK visa application centre in Azerbaijan. GOV.UK sends Azerbaijan applicants to VFS Global for this. Check the address and opening hours on the booking page.

   Prepare your documents

   Scan or bring the documents that show the purpose of the trip, your money and your ties at home (see the list below).

   Give your biometrics

   At the centre you give your fingerprints and a photo and hand in your passport or documents if asked.

   Wait for the decision

   GOV.UK says you usually get a decision within 3 weeks after the appointment. Do not book flights you cannot change before you have the visa.

   Check the visa

   When the passport comes back, check your name, dates and the visa type. Report any mistake at once.

The UK does not give a fixed checklist. You must show that you will leave at the end of the visit, that you can pay for the trip and your stay, and that you will not live in the UK through repeated visits. The Home Office publishes a guide to supporting documents. These are the papers people from Azerbaijan usually give:

• A passport valid for the whole stay, and old passports with past visas if you have them.
• Bank statements for recent months that show regular income, not a large sum paid in just before applying.
• A letter from your employer with your job, salary and approved leave, or company papers if you own a business. Students give a letter from their school or university.
• Proof of ties at home, for example property, family or study.
• Hotel bookings or a letter from the person you will stay with, with a copy of their UK passport or residence document.
• If someone else pays, their letter and proof of their income.
• A certified English or Welsh translation of every document in another language, such as Azerbaijani or Russian.

Only true documents. A false document or a false answer on the form can lead to a ban on UK visas for years.

The usual target is a decision within 3 weeks after you give your biometrics. Some applications take longer, for example when the Home Office asks for an interview or more documents. Busy months before summer and the winter holidays may be slower, so apply as soon as you know your dates, but not earlier than 3 months before the trip.

The Home Office publishes processing times by country. Check the current figure for Azerbaijan on GOV.UK before you plan, as it changes during the year.

The refusal letter lists the reasons. It also says whether you can ask for a review or appeal. For most visitor visa refusals there is no full appeal, so the usual way forward is a new application.

Before you apply again, answer every reason in the letter. If they doubted your job, add an employer letter and payslips. If they doubted your money, show steady income over several months. If they doubted your plans, explain them clearly and keep them the same as your bookings. A new application needs a new fee.
