Key points

Can you extend the Azerbaijan e visa?

Not in the usual sense. The ASAN e visa is single entry, valid 90 days, and lets you stay up to 30 days after you enter. There is no button on evisa.gov.az to add days, and paying again online does not give you a longer stay while you are inside the country.

What the law does allow is an extension of temporary stay. This is a decision by the State Migration Service, not a new visa. It is meant for situations you could not plan, and it is limited to 60 days. The Foreign Ministry page on extensions explains the timing; the reasons are in Article 40 of the Migration Code.

Who can get a stay extension?

The Migration Code lists the reasons. If none of them fits you, an application will most likely be refused.

  • You need urgent medical treatment in Azerbaijan.
  • A close relative in Azerbaijan is seriously ill or has died.
  • Official work you came for is not finished (for example a government invited delegation).
  • An emergency stop during transit forces you to stay.
  • Your parent, spouse, child, brother or sister got an extension, and you stay with them.
  • A highly skilled migrant cannot yet start work for reasons outside their control.

Wanting more holiday, waiting for a flight sale or looking for a job are not grounds. Do not wait for day 29 hoping for an extension.

How to apply for a stay extension

  1. 1

    Collect proof of the reason

A hospital letter, a medical report, a death certificate or another document that shows why you must stay. Bring your passport with the e visa and entry stamp.

  2. 2

Apply at least 3 days before your stay ends

Apply to the State Migration Service. For children under 18, the parents or legal representative apply. Call 919 to ask where to file in your case and whether a state fee applies; we could not confirm a fee on an official page.

  3. 3

    Wait for the decision

The decision is made within 3 working days. Keep your registration confirmation if you have stayed more than 15 days.

  4. 4

    Leave with the decision

If approved, you leave by showing your passport and the extension decision at the border.

If the extension is refused

Leave before your stay ends. If your 30 days ran out while the application was being decided, you have 48 hours from the moment you receive the refusal to leave the country.

Staying after that is an overstay, fined AZN 300 to 400 with or without expulsion. Unpaid fines can stop you leaving and block your next entry. See overstay fines.

Better ways to stay longer

If you plan a longer stay from the start, choose the right document before you fly or in your first week.

Leaving and getting a new e visa

The e visa conditions say a new e visa can be issued only after you have left Azerbaijan. Many visitors fly to Tbilisi, Istanbul or Dubai and come back on a new one. There is no published limit on how many e visas you may get, but border officers can ask about the purpose of repeated long visits, and short visits do not give a right to live here. Land borders are closed to passengers until 2 January 2027, so plan to come back by air. Read visa runs from Azerbaijan before you try it.

If you prefer, Sroky can file the new e visa for you for USD 39 (standard) or USD 69 (urgent) on top of the official fee. You can always apply alone on evisa.gov.az. Sroky is a private service, not the government.

Do not forget registration

Any stay longer than 15 days needs your address registered within 15 days of arrival. If an extension takes you past day 15, make sure it is done. See address registration. Sroky reminds you before day 15 and before your last legal day.

Let Sroky file your e visa
